Culture Camp
Parenting Across Color is proud to present our first annual culture camp taking place in Austin, TX June 9 – 11, 2011 with a Transracial Parenting Conference on Saturday, June 11 for foster and adoptive parents.
Please join us for this exciting event in which transracially adopted children will be immersed in African American culture through music, dance, art, and history.

Who: African American/African/Caribbean children ages 5 – 11 (includes rising kindergartners and rising 6th graders) whose adoptions have already been consummated AND their adoptive siblings.
What: Culture camp for transracially adopted children and their adoptive siblings. Daily activities include art, music, dance, therapeutic play, history lessons presented by the Carver Museum of Austin, and performances by culturally relevant artists.
Where: St. James Episcopal Church located at 1941 Webberville Road in Austin, TX
When: Thursday, June 9 – Saturday, June 11. Families are invited back to St. James Episcopal Church on Sunday, June 12 as the children will perform a medley of songs learned during Camp Baobab. Camp will take place from 9 Am to 4 Pm daily.
Cost: $40 per child includes lunch daily, Camp Baobab T-shirt, and all activities.
Parents: Foster and adoptive parents are invited to take part in the Transracial Parenting Conference on Saturday, June 11 at St. James Episcopal from 9 Am – 4 Pm. Topics of discussion include White Privilege, Dealing With Racism, Skin and Hair Care, and the Special Needs of Boys. Lunch is included as well as 7 hours of continuing education credit for licensed foster parents. The cost of the day long conference is $25 per couple or $15 per single parent. All families are welcome.
